Field-Day-Sign

The JARC Field Day 2017 event is set to begin on Saturday, June 24, from 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm and Sunday, June 25, from 8 am – 1:00 pm. Final preparations will be discussed at the club’s General Meeting on Thursday, June 22 at 7:00 pm.

WhenAllElseFailsSince 1933, amateur or “ham” radio operators across North America have established temporary ham radio stations in public locations during Field Day to showcase the science and skill of Amateur Radio. During times of disaster, Field Day demonstrates ham radio’s ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location and create an independent communications network. Amateur radio has a long history of providing emergency communications and is a huge asset to any community during disasters when normal communication systems are overloaded or offline.

fielddaypost-150x150Licensed amateur radio operators (based on your class of license) are welcome to join in and work the airwaves with our club members as they operate from multiple stations and frequencies. If you are not licensed yet, but have an interest in Ham radio and the JARC, you can still join in on the fun and maybe have the opportunity to get on the air and make some contacts with one of our members assisting as the control operator.

The highlight of Field Day is watching a person catch the radio bug. This especially happens when they operate one of our radios and speak with people hundreds or even thousands of miles away. On Field Day, it is especially easy to hear a return to a call because so many stations are on the air which should make for an exciting operating event.
